Tips on Reducing Dust in Your Home

Published by Jennifer Fletcher

Dust returns on your surfaces no matter how frequently you clean. Individuals with allergies usually experience worsening symptoms in dusty environments. To keep your family and guests comfortable, it’s important to keep dust under control.

 Reducing Dust in Your Home

While it is nearly impossible to eliminate dust completely, these tips from air conditioning installation contractor Modern Air Solutions will help minimize dust buildup.

Keep Your Home Free of Clutter

A cluttered home provides the ideal environment for dust to accumulate. Pay attention to stacks of books, toys, magazines and anything else that isn’t used and collects dust. Unfortunately, simply dusting these items will not solve the issue. The key is keeping your home clutter-free so that your weekly cleaning session can be done more easily.

Clean Air Ducts

Maintaining clean vents and ducts will result in less dust floating around. It takes about five minutes to clean each vent the first time and less than a minute every time after that. Your vents accumulate dust faster if you have pets.

Sweep & Mop Wood Floors Often

If you have wood floors, sweep them as frequently as possible. Dust is highly visible on wooden floors and is easily transported throughout the house. Heating service and AC contractor Modern Air Solutions recommends sweeping your floors at the end of each day and mopping them at least twice per week. The more frequently you clean your wood floors, the easier it will be to control dust.

Use the Right Tools to Dust

Feather dusters are timeless but ineffective at removing dust. The soft-bristled dusting attachment on your vacuum can do a better job of cleaning drapes or curtains, mini-blinds and baseboards. Use a damp microfiber cloth to dust everything else, including hard surfaces like tabletops and shelves.

There are modern devices to help you keep dust under control and improve indoor air quality in your home. Modern Air Solutions offers OXY 4®, an Advanced Active Ionic Oxidation Air Purifier that uses UV light and catalytic reactions to create ionically charged airborne oxidizers. We also offer other humidifiers and air cleaners. Besides helping you maintain good indoor air quality, we also provide heating repair and other HVAC services.
